In a tweet on Saturday, April 26, Cheruiyot denied claims by a popular social media influencer, Cyprian Nyakundi, that suggested he is among Kenyan politicians benefiting from the betting industry.

The Kericho senator accused Nyakundi of running a smear campaign, arguing that he does not even know how to place a bet.

The senator, a close ally of President William Ruto, stated that he does not have any interest in any betting firm in the country.

"Stop this your silly smear campaign. I do not even know how to bet, let alone have interest in a betting firm or related business. Neither directly nor by proxy. You ought to be embarrassed by yourself," Cheruiyot stated.

Nyakundi in a tweet, claimed the Kericho senator was among Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders minting billions from the betting firms.

According to Nyakundi, some leaders have been earning billions by acting as agents for the collection of taxes from betting firms.

"An insider has come forward with details that explain what many Kenyans have been wondering for months. How betting taxes are being stolen right under our noses, and who is behind it. The name that keeps coming up is Senator Aaron Cheruiyot," Nyakundi claimed.
