Aaron Carter's Estate Faces Demand After Son's Inheritance
Aaron Carter's estate faces a significant creditor's claim, amounting to a five-figure sum, shortly after the revelation of his son Princeton Carter's inheritance. The State of California Franchise Tax Board has filed an amended creditor's claim against the estate, alleging unpaid taxes at the time of his death.
According to documents obtained by In Touch, the breakdown of the debt includes $13,744.76 for 2018, $20,298.01 for 2020, $34,158 for 2021, and $18,905.92 for 2022, totaling $87,106.69. The claim also specifies that additional interest will accrue until the payment date. This claim amends an initial filing from April 2023, which was for $17,092.31, and a subsequent amendment in early January to $77,310.92.
Aaron Carter passed away on November 5, 2022, at the age of 34, with his son Princeton being the sole beneficiary of his estate. The estate's administrator recently submitted a final report to the probate court, describing the estate as "insolvent." The report also noted two creditor's claims from the Internal Revenue Service for $195,000 in back taxes.
Due to insufficient funds, the administrator stated that the unpaid taxes could not be settled and that entering a payment plan would be impractical. The assets slated for distribution to Princeton include royalties estimated at $16,296 and personal property valued at $6,120. The administrator clarified that the royalties would be received over at least 10 years.
The sale of Aaron’s home yielded only $7,000 in profit, and the remaining personal property is not expected to generate significant revenue if sold. The administrator expressed doubt that the IRS or Franchise Tax Board would pursue the unpaid taxes, deeming the collection efforts more costly than beneficial. Melanie Martin intends to file documents to become the guardian of Princeton’s estate, enabling her to receive the inheritance on his behalf.
Aaron Carter was found dead in his Lancaster, California home, with the cause of death determined as drowning, complicated by the inhalation of difluoroethane and intake of alprazolam. Melanie Martin has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of Princeton against Aaron’s doctor and dentist, who have denied any wrongdoing and are seeking to dismiss the case. Additionally, Aaron has been drawn into his brother Nick Carter’s sexual assault legal battle, with the accuser demanding communications between Nick and Aaron, which Nick denies exist.
