7 Stylish Sarongs That Dress Up Simple Summer Outfits

Published 7 hours ago3 minute read

If I had to choose one genre of clothing to spend the rest of my days in, it’d probably be resort wear. I live in New York City, so it’s arguably the least practical category for my lifestyle (and closet space), but there’s something undeniably chic about it—caftans, knit pants, breezy sets. Lately, I’ve been especially fixated on sarongs, and that’s because they’re an easy summer hack that instantly upgrades your simple summer outfits with literally zero effort.

When traveling, packing multiple outfits can be tricky, but a few lightweight sarongs can instantly elevate the same black bikini you’re wearing all week—and can even be worn over dresses or jeans to add a touch of richness. That, and, well, they’re also surprisingly versatile: You can tie one into a skirt, a scarf, or even a top (I haven’t mastered that yet, but TikTok is full of tutorials). Basically, this little piece of cloth offers a myriad of wearing options, so yeah, you need one.

I also have a packed travel schedule this summer, and as a proud member of the “no checked bags” club, I’m loading up on sarongs that fit into my carry-on. Below, the 7 sarongs I’m shopping that prove this underrated staple deserves a place in your warm-weather wardrobe.

Made from 100 percent cotton, this block-print sarong comes in 10 different patterns, but I’m especially drawn to the rust peach sand option. It’s incredibly soft and lightweight, making it the perfect cover-up even on the hottest days. At 73 x 45 inches, it’s large enough to hit the ankles and versatile enough to wear as a sarong dress, swimsuit scarf, or breastfeeding cover up.

If you’re looking to enter the big wide world of sarongs but want to start simple, this $10 option is the perfect option. It’s available in over 30 shades, including neutrals, bright tones, and even a few prints like leopard and tie-dye. Also, it leans on the sheer side, so you won’t have to hide the swimsuit you spent too much money on.

This 100 percent cotton sarong feels soft on the skin and gives off rich mom energy in the best way. It comes in six chic patterns, each one more eye-catching than the last. It’s machine washable, but line-drying will help extend its lifespan.

Nothing screams “I vacation in Ibiza” like this knitted sarong. With its little shell accents, it’s very on trend. And while the neutrals are great, the blue shade is currently sitting in my cart. Mermaidcore, anyone?

I’ve been eyeing the metallic Oséree swim sets for years but can never quite get myself to pull the trigger. Thankfully, this shiny sarong is an easy way to get in on the trend for under $20. It comes in 22 shades including purple, rust orange, and sage green, so there’s something for everyone. It’s also on the shorter side, which makes it even easier to wear as a top.

Crafted from 100 percent cotton gauze, this black and white Anine Bing sarong is a wardrobe staple that will last for years. The pattern is bold but not too loud, offering just the right amount of personality. One size fits all, and it instantly elevates any beach or poolside outfit.
