6 workers feared trapped as section of roof in SLBC tunnel project collapses in Telangana

NEW DELHI: At least six workers were feared trapped when a section of a roof collapsed in the under construction stretch of the

Srisailam Left Bank Canal

(SLBC) in

Nagarkurnool district

of Telangana on Saturday, police said.
The assessment team from the construction company has entered the site for evaluation and verification.
Six to eight workers are feared trapped as per information given by the company engaged in the work, a senior police official said.
"The incident occurred when some workers had gone inside as part of the work when roof collapsed at 12-13 kms inside the tunnel," the official said.

The chief minister's office issued a statement indicating injuries to some individuals, without specifying the exact number.
A Revanth Reddy, the chief minister, instructed the district Collector, Superintendent of police and other officials to proceed to the accident site to coordinate relief operations.
Following the chief minister's instructions, state irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, government adviser on irrigation Adityanath Das and additional irrigation officials departed for the location via special helicopter.
Union coal minister G Kishan Reddy expressed his concern about the accident, sought details about its cause, and directed officials to rescue the trapped individuals.
His office released a statement indicating he had also requested proper medical care for any injured persons.
