5 women in fashion on how to style your Nike trainers | Dazed

When you think of iconic fashion editorials, perhaps you know the photographer, but do you always know the name of the stylist? It’s a role that sometimes gets left out of the picture, but is more than simply picking clothes off a rail. A stylist has to navigate ideas about culture, identity and subversiveness – while occasionally dealing with, ahem, challenging personalities. It’s not always glam, but it’s essential. Nike launched Nike Style By, a curated seasonal deep dive into the latest styles from cities across the world.

In honour of the latest campaign, we have teamed up with Nike to meet five of the most exciting stylists working in Europe today – including Jagi NelsonElla LuciaSimone BeyeneClara Mary Joy and Ada Matylda. All five stylists are women who might work behind the scenes, but are putting their own stamp on the medium. They’re the ones translating loose ideas from moodboards into a look that really says something.

Alongside her styling work, CSM graduate Jagi Nelson is a model and junior designer. Ella Lucia is the fashion editor-at-large of AZEEMA magazine, and does costume design as well as styling (including our recent Ceechynaa cover). Simone Beyene has worked with talents including Mabel and Olivia Dean, and has a keen eye for emerging designers. Creative consultant and visual researcher Clara Mary Joy has worked for Denim Tears and Mowalola. Finally, model and Fashion Communication grad Ada Matylda has styled the likes of VTSS and lent her vision to editorials for Metal magazine and PAPER.

With all these credentials to their names, we decided to set them a challenge – to style their own looks around the LD-1000 and Shox R4. Each trainer has a playful yet versatile identity to work around, and we encouraged them to have fun with it, tapping into their own personal style while employing their creative eye. Elsewhere, both trainers have of course been included in the latest season of Nike Style By. For this eighth edition, young creatives based in Athens were featured sporting the LD-1000 and Shox R4 across the Greek capital.

Follow along to see how they chose to style the trainers, and keep a lookout for our interviews with each boundary-pushing creative here.
