4 north Kerala dists on yellow alert today

Kochi: The IMD has said that light to moderate westerlies prevail over Kerala and the Lakshadweep area. A yellow alert has been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Squally weather with wind speeds of 35-40kmph, gusting to 55kmph, is prevailing off north Kerala.According to the 24-hour rainfall recorded on Monday, Bayar recorded 4cm, while Ayyankunnu, Peringome, and Kannur airport received 3cm. There is a warning for fishermen against venturing into these open coasts until Wednesday. Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50kmph, gusting to 60kmph, is prevailing over some parts of the Southwest and many parts of the central Arabian Sea, adjoining parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, some parts of the central Bay of Bengal, and adjoining parts of the north Bay of Bengal, along and off the South Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and the adjoining Comorin area.

Meanwhile, Skymet Weather said that May 2025 has become the rainiest month since 1901, as it recorded a monthly rainfall of 126.7mm, compared to 112.9mm in May 1990 in the country. The largest contribution to the surplus seasonal rainfall came from central India, followed by the south peninsula, which registered an excess of 236% and 125%, respectively. Nearly unprecedented, all the subdivisions over the central and south peninsula registered large excess rainfall of over 60%.
