A Federal High Court No. 1 in Kano State has sentenced four drug dealers to a combined total of 33 years in prison for their involvement in illicit drug activities.
The convicts, Mas’udu Shitu (30), arrested in January 28 in possession of a staggering 1.3kg of cannabis sativa, was sentenced to nine years imprisonment effective from the date of judgment, with no option of a fine.
Surajo Samaila (37), arrested on January 10 with a substantial 6.4kg of cannabis, was sentenced to eight years, effective from the date of his arrest; while Buhari Yau Bashir (24) and Musa Usman (25), both arrested with 1.1kg of cannabis sativa and 0.8 grams of Tramadol tablets, got eight years sentences each.
According to a statement issued by ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Public Relations Officer, Kano state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the presiding judge, Justice M.S. Shu’aibu, while handing down the sentences, emphasized the court’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Nigeria.
