3 minors dead in Assam floods, toll touches 20
Guwahati: Three more flood related deaths have been reported from Kamrup district in last 24 hours, taking the total death toll this year due to floods in the state to 20. All three deceased were minors.
Total number of casualties in floods and landslides in the northeast since the monsoon mayhem began on May 30 in the region reached 53. However, there has been gradual improvement in the flood situation in the state and the number of flood-affected population has come down to 2.59 lakh on Sunday evening, as per a report from Assam State Disaster Management Authority.As many as 11 districts are still affected by floods but no river in the state is flowing above danger level. As per ASDMA, 741 villages across 32 revenue circles are currently affected. People have started returning to their homes, with number of inmates at relief camps declining to about 24,900 on Sunday.
