3 available transfers that would make sense to round out Gonzaga at the four-spot
It’s been a slow roster-building process for Gonzaga Basketball this offseason, with former ASU guard Adam Miller being the lone transfer pick from the past month. There are still some more needs on the roster to shore up, including at the four-spot. Last season, Ben Gregg and Michael Ajayi were the main power forwards for the 2024-25 campaign, up until Braden Huff moved over to the 4-spot to play alongside Graham Ike.
It worked toward the end of the year, and the expectation is that they’ll be the starting duo. However, who will be the backup to Huff at the four-spot? Steele Venters is an option, but he’s been hurt the past two years.
There aren’t many great options left in the transfer portal, but some players can fit what Gonzaga is missing at the four-spot. Here are three guys to watch.
Rich is a 6’7 and 240-pound forward who has been a reserve for the past two years, playing around 10 mpg off the bench. He was highly efficient when he got on the court, shooting 67% from the field and making 4/9 from deep in limited attempts. If Gonzaga is looking for a forward who can soak up around 10-15 off the bench and provide an impact, Rich could fit that bill.
The 6’7 combo forward was one of the more disappointing transfers last season, going from a mid-major all-star at Belmont (16.2 ppg and 5.9 rpg as a sophomore) to someone who couldn’t get minutes at the high-major level. However, returning to the WCC would fit Tyson better, and he’s still a career 42% shooter from three-point range. He may be worth taking a flyer on to see if Tyson can get back to his Belmont days.
The 6’7 "wing/forward is a former WAC Player of the Year at Grand Canyon. Even dealing with injuries, he had a productive campaign this past season. Grant-Foster is still a quality player available in the portal, capable of creating his own shot and playing and defending multiple positions.
Grant-Foster potentially needs a waiver to play and has previously dealt with medical issues, making him a risky player. Still, Gonzaga could use a high-level scorer like him to add to the wing position, which may be the most questionable in terms of scoring.
