2000 LP Members Defect To APC As Ukachukwu, Ekwunife Deny APGA's Claim Of Tinubu's Support - Independent Newspaper Nigeria
Labour Party (LP) members in Anambra State have defected to All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged to deliver their votes to Senator Nicholas Ukachukwu, the party’s governorship candidate in the November 8th 2025 election.
Throwing light on the decision of LP to identify with APC, the leader of the defecting LP group, Hon Fab Ozoigbo, said the defectors cut across the state and expressed the hope that Ukachukwu would take the state out of poverty and insecurity.
Ozoigbo, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State and former Head of Logistics for the party’s National Campaign Organisation during the 2023 general elections, said he resigned from LP and joined APC, along with his followers to support President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to stabilise Nigeria’s economy through positive policies and sound economic management.
He said he equally moved to APC because of the emergence of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as APC’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, describing Ukachukwu as a grassroots politician and philanthropist of note, adding that Ukachukwu’s popularity would boost the APC’s chances.
Another stalwart from Orumba South Local Government Area, Mazi Echemba, explained that the 2000 defecting members decided to support Ukachukwu because of his track records of achievements, philanthropic disposition and ability to provide democracy dividends.
Another stakeholder, Mrs Okoye Ujunwa from Awka, said LP members were convinced APC was the party to align with the ruling party at the centre, stressing change was imminent.
Appreciating the defectors, the deputy governorship candidate of the APC, Senator Uche Ekwunife, urged the people of the state to embrace the revolution in the South-East Zone and join the moving train.
Ekwunife observed that four states in the South-East were leaning towards the party at the centre, APC led by Tinubu, stressing that the state should vote for APC to attract dividends of democracy from the centre.
Welcoming the defectors, Ukachukwu appreciated them for identifying with his aspiration and promised to run an all-inclusive administration.
Ukachukwu, who also spoke to 980 loyalists drawn from scores of support groups, lamented that no fewer than eight local government areas were held hostage for three years under the Soludo administration, bemoaning the wanton destruction of lives and property of the people in the state.
The APC gubernatorial candidate said that “Anambra State is at the crossroads,” and promised to leverage on
