20 unexploded ordnances safely cleared in Kashmir's Baramulla; evacuees from 6 villages allowed to return

NEW DELHI: Police have successfully coordinated the safe clearance of 20 unexploded ordnances (UXOs) found across 17 villages in Jammu & Kashmir's Baramulla district. Following the clearance, the district administration has granted permission for evacuees from six of these villages to return to their homes, said Baramulla police.

"District administration has permitted evacuees from these the six villages to return," Baramulla policeSecurity forces are maintaining heightened vigilance, and the public has been urged to report any suspicious objects without attempting to handle them. The development comes after Jammu and Kashmir experienced a rare calm on Sunday night, with no hostilities reported between Indian and Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. The Indian Army confirmed this development in a brief statement issued Monday morning."No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days," it said. The pause in hostilities follows several days of heightened tensions. On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted military response aimed at dismantling seven terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

All subsequent Indian military actions in response to Pakistani provocations have been conducted under Operation Sindoor. On Saturday, both India and Pakistan announced a mutual understanding to cease all military actions—on land, sea, and air—effective from 5 pm that evening. However, there were some violations by the Pakistani military on Saturday night despite the ceasefire agreement.(With agency inputs)
