2 students drown in JSR’s Kharkai river

amshedpur: A birthday celebration by three engineering students turned tragic after two drowned in the Kharkai river on Saturday evening. The bodies were recovered on Sunday.

According to the police, Parth Kumar (23) and his two college friends Shashank Kumar (22) and Shubham Kumar (22) had gone to Baroda ghat at Kharkai river in Bagbera to celebrate Parth's birthday. Parth, Shashank and Shubham are final year B.Tech students of a private engineering college.Reportedly after the party, the three ventured into the river for a swim but one of them swam too far out into the middle of the river and died after being caught in current.

Though the other two rushed to his rescue, they too got swept away by the high current of the river. In the meantime, fishermen noticed the boys struggling to stay afloat and rushed to their rescue. Parth was rescued but Shashank and Shubham could not be saved. The bodies of the two boys were recovered on Sunday and sent the bodies to MGMMCH for autopsy. Parth is being treated at Rajasthan Seva Sadan nursing home in Jugsalai. Detailed probe is on.
