$2,347 fine issued for tractor trailer stuck in Smuggler's Notch
Vermont State Police (VSP) responded to a stuck truck that blocked Smuggler’s Notch for hours on Monday.
Shortly after 11 a.m. on May 19, troopers responded to VT 108 S (Smuggler’s Notch) in the town of Cambridge, Vermont, for a reported stuck truck.

“Investigation revealed the operator, Musa Boima, 36, of Maryland, was traveling from Waterbury to Enosburg when he chose to disregard several signs stating tractor trailers were prohibited, and decided to drive around chicanes that were installed at the entrance to the Notch road. Boima claimed he saw a sign telling him he could drive through,” VSP said.
WCAX reports that this is the first semi truck to get stuck in Smuggler’s Notch since the roadway reopened for the season.
Smuggler’s Notch was closed for approximately three hours while a tow truck operator worked to recover the stuck semi.

Boima was issued a traffic ticket for “driving on lanes for traffic.”
The trucking company Boima works for was cited for “tractor trailer in the notch” which carries a fine of $2,347.
Stuck trucks in Smuggler’s Notch have become such a problem that last year, the Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) installed chicanes, a system of consisting of orange barrels and curbs designed to “stop tractor trailers and other oversized vehicles, force them to turn around, and thus prevent any attempt to continue driving on VT 108 into the Notch.”
