Surat: A Surat court on Tuesday remanded gang rape accused Aditya Upadhyay and Gaurav Singh to four days of police custody. The Jahangirpura police had sought 10 days' custody, but the court granted only four.Police told the court they needed custody to retrace the duo's route to Dabhari beach on the day of the incident, verify whom they met, and collect evidence, including purchases made at the beach.
Investigators also plan to conduct medical tests and examine possible links of the accused to other crimes.During the probe, it emerged that Upadhyay is married and recently became a father, while Singh is unmarried.Meanwhile, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished Baba Hotel, an illegal non-veg eatery on Ved Road, allegedly linked to Upadhyay. The hotel was encroaching on a footpath and was operating without necessary approvals. However, both Jahangirpura and Chowk Bazar police denied alerting the SMC about the illegal structure.
