A 15-year-old girl has been arrested in Borno after dumping the body of a newborn infant in a pit toilet in the Charamari Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno.

The 15-year-old who has been identified as Yafalmata Alhaji Mustapha is a displaced person who resides in the Charamari IDP camp.

According to a security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the body of a newborn was discovered around 6:00 am in the IDP camp’s toilet on Thursday.

“According to a Police source on May 22, 2025, at about 9:15 a.m., it was reported that earlier the same day at around 6:00 a.m., the body of a newly born infant was found abandoned in one of the camp’s pit toilets,” the security analyst noted.

“The sources said that the suspect, identified as Yafalmata Alhaji Mustapha, aged 15 years, and a resident of the camp, is currently in police custody for investigation.”

He added that police operatives and medical experts visited the IDP camp and took photographs of the scene, and the body of the infant was evacuated to the General Hospital in Monguno.

The baby was, however, confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor at the hospital. The infant’s corpse was deposited at the hospital for autopsy.

The corpse was released to the chairman of the IDP camp to be buried according to Islamic burial rites.
