The management of Edo University, Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area, said 14 students would be graduating with first-class degrees in its 6th convocation ceremony scheduled for February 27, 2025.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing as part of activities lined up for the convocation.
Egbefo said a total of 430 students would be graduating from the institution, out of which 14 bagged First Class degrees.
He added that an additional 140 graduates would receive various postgraduate degrees, including 20 who would be awarded Doctor of Philosophy degrees in different fields.
He also disclosed that an honorary degree would be bestowed on the former Governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, now a senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, and Vincent Agenmomen, Chairman of Freedom Group of Companies.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor said the duo would be honoured for their illustrious careers and contributions to the development of Edo State and Nigeria.
He also added that the institution maintained its policy of awarding N5 million to graduating students with the best entrepreneurial business ideas.
He said the school is in collaboration with the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas to offer students meaningful industrial educational experiences.
Egbefo explained that the university would continue to support activities to improve academic achievement while making beneficial societal contributions.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, however, commended the Edo State Government for installing optic fibre cable broadband across the university for internet services.
He noted that the installation of broadband internet services around the campuses was to provide fast transmission of data to academics, staff members, and students.
“Provision of the internet is a crucial part of the structure of an institution of higher learning across the world,” he said.
