Great Games You Should Never Replay

Replayability has become one of the most important aspects developers consider for expanding their video games' lifespan.

Through a perfect gameplay loop that can entertain you for hours or a story with multiple variations that make you want to delve into all the narrative possibilities, many titles across every genre strive to offer more than just one playthrough.

However, not every experience is designed to be lived more than once., as their entire proposal revolves around a concept that, once discovered, can't have the same impact.

It's a great risk, since failing to achieve said effect kills the vibe completely. Yet, as this list of ten great games you should never replay shows, they can be among the most stunning experiences within the interactive medium if done right.

Visual Novel

Visual novels are often disregarded for their lack of interactivity, but Bad End Theater is an excellent example of the genre's opportunities.

Drawing inspiration from the outstanding Undertale, this game presents a branching tale with a compelling decision-making system that makes you connect with the characters and their circumstances.

You must go through an insane number of narrative paths to discover the game's true ending, but.

After you reach that point, there's nothing left to do but rejoice after witnessing a well-rounded story that leaves no loose ends and is expected to be thoroughly lived once.

Mouthwashing presents a jaw-dropping experience that is difficult to match, so I understand why many players try their best to find similar games.

Although, the story is mind-blowing in every sense, with a marvelous narrative, characters, and atmosphere.

Exploring the Tulpar spaceship and watching the initially obtuse sequence of events unfold is outstanding, especially as you go deeper into the story and start to unravel the awful secrets lying beneath.

Through plot twists, excellent rhythm, and unforgettable dialogues, Mouthwashing leaves an everlasting impression that needs no second attempt. If you already know what happened, you won't be able to forget it enough to relive it again like the first time.

I've played many inexplicable titles in my life, so I feel sure to state there's no experience as surreal as Hylics.

Despite not being familiar with the use of claymation in video games, I was in awe from start to finish while playing this hallucination disguised as a turn-based role-playing game.

,,,, making you feel you're enjoying something you won't ever play again and thus urging you to value every single second.

The first time I died and saw my protagonist's skin peel off, get warped to the afterlife, and grind my enemies' meat to increase my health points, I just knew Hylics was a once-in-a-lifetime gem.

Replaying it doesn't do much because the story makes zero sense and the gameplay is deep enough just to be great on the first playthrough, but it doesn't need it to be memorable.

I usually dislike psychological horror games because

Without relying on jump scares, this biblical journey made me fall in love with a magnificent story, terrifying sound design, and rotoscope cinematics that kept me up at night for a few days.

The way it handles different endings, secrets, boss fights, and exploration is more than engaging, making this one of the best horror games I've ever played despite constantly feeling I wanted to quit and go to Slime Rancher.

Faith: The Unholy Trinity's only problem is that it's as slow as a snail. Thus, when you've faced every revelation, level, and boss, replaying it is just a way to tediously frustrate your first playthrough's memory, so don't make the same mistake I made.

9 Underrated Video Game Reboots

Not every video game reboot does it perfectly, but some deserve more credit than they get.

Progressively, it exhibits what it's really all about, turning this action experience into a psychological journey that will probably alter your way of interacting with the games it mimics.

Once you know, nothing is the same anymore. , and if you're willing to partake in its campaign again, you didn't get the message it sends.

Besides, mechanically speaking, it's still just another TPS with nothing special to brag about, so it's much better to cherish the life-changing experience it originally was.

Being among the best games with Norse mythology, it's difficult to find another experience as striking as Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

From how it messes with you through its superb use of sound, to its wonderful setting and intriguing story,.

However, the gameplay is completely lackluster, and neither the puzzles nor the combat are interesting enough to be worth a second campaign, especially given that the game itself doesn't actively look to be replayable.

When you first hear the voices in your head or get immersed in its absorbing universe, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is as memorable as a video game can get. When those aspects aren't novel anymore, it's nowhere near the original experience.

Outer Wilds could easily be the modern blueprint for non-replayable games, as it's the most popular and clear example of an adventure that can't be repeated.

The experience is a colossal puzzle that makes you explore an entire solar system to gather the clues to solve it. ,,.

Evidently, that first experience belongs to the most selective list of video games that can transform your life. It may hold zero replay value if you first played it correctly, but it doesn't require it to be a complete masterpiece.

Regardless, the dialogues, discoveries, reflections, events, and resolutions of your first time in Outer Wilds cannot be replicated even by Outer Wilds itself. You only have one shot at the game that will turn you into a different person, so you better don't waste it.

It hurts me that people don't speak about Pentiment as much as the game deserves, especially considering it may well be the finest work Obsidian has ever given us.

Andreas Mauler's journey of life is, with a fascinating plot, dozens of amazing characters, and tons of meaning and symbolism.

To explore the town of Tassing and discover the mysteries beneath its foundation and power structures is incredibly thrilling, more so thanks to a majestic soundtrack and an art design I can't compare to anything I've seen before.

Yet, after you've invested hours in knowing its citizens, unraveling crimes, and being baffled by every set piece,

While Pentiment does have multiple endings and your decisions affect said developments, going through the slow process of exploring and talking with everyone again gets tiresome quickly, and the changes aren't notable enough to be worth the hassle.

Inscryption is one of my favorite examples of the infinite possibilities video games hold as a medium to convey in-depth and mesmerizing stories.

Both in terms of mechanics and narrative, , so you'll always be experiencing a sense of wonder and surprise every time the game decides to turn things upside down.

Given that it never stops doing so, as it's constantly changing the gameplay and plot, every minute spent on Inscryption is a minute wondering how it's possible that a title this unique, addictive, and bewitching actually exists.

It covers the usual aspects of a great deckbuilder, with neat boss fights and systems that give you a lot of entertainment, but —something that isn't possible a second time.

Those of us who have finished NieR: Automata know the specific and unforgettable reason you can't play it again, and it's difficult to disclose it without entering into spoiler territory.

Unlike every other game on this list, the gameplay is unbelievably fantastic, so I can't say that the grounds for not playing it again are that it gets boring because I would be lying.

It's hard to pull off a plot twist, but there's nothing better than being caught completely off guard by one and watching the story change.

Instead, NieR: Automata is a game that can only be lived once because you can't be who you were during the first playthrough. What you saw, discovered, understood, and felt during the journey is unrepeatable, and the game's true ending makes sure to let you know it.

As I see it, if you value video games as a form of art and respect their artists' creative vision, this game has to be left well alone after the credits to truly cherish and comprehend the message and experience it conveys.

It's contradictory because it's a wonderful action game that's extremely entertaining, but appreciating it requires enduring the desire to enjoy it again since it won't be the same.
