Many people probably associate with his role as Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead universe. Reedus has been playing Daryl in some capacity since 2010. Subsequently, he has added his own series based on the character called The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. While Reedus has been synonymous with trying to survive in a world of Walkers, that isn't the only project he's done.

He built up his resume with steady film work, mostly in a co-starring capacity, as well as both voice and guest work on TV series. He also hosted his own reality series, Ride with Norman Reedus, on AMC since 2016. Even though Reedus is mostly known for The Walking Dead, or as Diane Kruger's partner, he has starred in some major films over his career.

With his upcoming role in the new John Wick film, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, here are the 10 most essential titles in the Norman Reedus filmography.

Gary Walkow

Alain Silver, Andrew Pfeffer, Donald Zuckerman

Reedus starred alongside Courtney Love and Kiefer Sutherland in 2000's . The word "beat" refers to the generation of beat poets and figures portrayed in the film. Reedus played the famous beat writer Lucien Carr. The film focuses on Joan Vollmer, played by Love, and her husband, William S. Burroughs, played by Sutherland.

Burroughs, Carr, Allen Ginsberg (Ron Livingston), Jack Kerouac (Daniel Martinez), and David Kammerer (Kyle Secor) all become acquainted with Vollmer, and the film highlights her relationship with Burroughs and his eventual murder of her. Beat came on the heels of Reedus' biggest film role and showed the promise he had as an actor in a more dramatic role rather than an action role. The film received middling reviews from critics, though most had issues with the script rather than the actors.

Released right after Beat, is a psychological thriller about students who decide to spread a rumor as a part of a class assignment in order to track its progress and report back on what happened. But the results are more shocking than they could have imagined. Reedus played Travis, one of the three main characters of the film, who is a part of the social experiment of gossiping.

The cast was filled with names just as they were starting to get famous, including the likes of Kate Hudson, James Marsden, Lena Headey, and Joshua Jackson, all starring. The movie was met with negative reviews, especially the surprise ending. Many critics, including Roger Ebert, were high on the film until the twist ending. The film was a box office bomb, only making $12M against a $24M production budget.

In 2015, Reedus starred in alongside Djimon Hounsou. The film was produced by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and features the two actors as caretakers in a post-apocalyptic world. The world's air has become uninhabitable, and anyone left in civilization lives in cryogenic chambers under the Earth. For two hours every six months, pairs of caretakers are awakened and asked to clean the facilities and make sure everything is running okay in the chambers. Reedus and Hounsou play one of the pairs of caretakers.

When one of their sleeping chambers is destroyed, the two must figure out how to survive. It is a unique story with some imaginative set designs. The film was panned by critics who praised the acting but ultimately disliked the script, though the dystopian setting worked in the film's favor.

Robert Redford

James D. Solomon

Greg Shapiro, Jeremiah Samuels, Robert Stone, Webster Stone, Bill Holderman, Brian Peter Falk

follows Mary Surratt's trial after she was the only woman charged in the conspiracy to kill Abraham Lincoln. Directed by Robert Redford, the film has a cast filled with well-known actors, including Robin Wright as Surratt, James McAvoy, Evan Rachel Wood, Kevin Kline, Tom Wilkinson, Alexis Bledel, Danny Huston, Stephen Root, Shea Whigham, Jonathan Groff, and Justin Long star alongside Reedus.

Reedus plays Lewis Payne, the man who was charged with trying to assassinate Secretary of State William Seward. The opening scene of the film features the assassination attempts on Lincoln and Seward happening on the same night. It is a gripping way to start a film, and Reedus' near-fatal stabbing of Seward is both surprising and shocking.

While it doesn't feature the biggest Reedus performance, is one of the most notable movies he stars in. Reedus plays a detective on Russell Crowe's police team that is trying to bring down Denzel Washington's Frank Lucas. Reedus plays a detective in a morgue, so he's not chewing up dialogue. But the movie is a sleek and stylish crime drama about the rise of Frank Lucas, the infamous drug kingpin and crime boss.

Crowe plays Richie Roberts, a Newark detective who aims to become a lawyer and works tirelessly to bring Frank to justice. The film, directed by Ridley Scott, features strong performances from the leads and made nearly $270M at the box office. It lands here due to a mixture of the strength of the film with the performance of Reedus.

Reedus may not be in for an incredibly long time, but he is memorable in it nonetheless. He and Chiwetel Ejiofor play former Navy SEALs turned robbers. Reedus is the brother of Aaron Paul's character, who is a former cop turned criminal. The opening scene features this crew and a few others robbing a bank to retrieve a safety deposit box. They bring that box to the wife of a Russian mob boss, played by Kate Winslet.

Rather than give them payment for their job, she gives them another job and then tortures Reedus to make the point stick. The film features Casey Affleck as a detective trying to solve the case of the robbery. The intermixing of the mob and the police blurs the audience's trust as to who is a good guy and who is bad. The film also featured Woody Harrelson, Clifton Collins Jr., Gal Gadot, Anthony Mackie, Teresa Pamer, and Michael K. Williams.

The sequel to the film that put Reedus on Hollywood's map, is a continuation of the MacManus brothers' tale. Reprising his role as Murphy MacManus, Reedus stars alongside Sean Patrick Flannery as Irish brothers turned vigilantes. After the massive cult following of the original film, it took 10 years to make a sequel.

In this film, the brothers are living in Ireland while they are framed for the murder of a Boston priest. They travel to the U.S. to find out who is trying to implicate them. It's a good enough sequel to an incredibly successful indie film, and Reedus and Flannery are as electric as ever. The movie pairs them with Collins, Jr. This was seven years before he and Reedus were in Triple 9. There are likely plans to make a third film in the series.

Arguably one of the most memorable performances by Reedus in a movie is in . The movie follows a motorcycle club known as The Vandals, led by Tom Hardy. Jodie Comer plays a woman who becomes involved with Austin Butler's Benny, a young member of the club. The movie is based on the photo book that journalist Danny Lyons created (Mike Faist plays him in the film.)

The movie captures the motorcycle gang culture of the 1960s and 1970s. Reedus plays the enforcer, trying to understand what The Vandals are up to and trying to scare them. His character is Funny Sonny, and he looks completely unrecognizable with a scraggly beard, discolored teeth, and big sunglasses. Amazingly, he looks a lot like the real-life person he is portraying.

Fabienne Berthaud

Pascal Arnold

As mentioned earlier, Reedus has been with Diane Kruger for a decade now. The couple met on the set of , a 2015 film directed by Fabienne Berthaud. Kruger plays a Parisian named Romy who is visiting the U.S. with her husband but leaves him and meets Reedus' Diego in Las Vegas. Romy is trying to make a new life for herself, and Diego looks like a new step in the right direction for her.

The film shows off the strong chemistry between the couple. While it has a sad twist, the pair brings it to life on screen in a powerful way. The movie was met with middling reviews, but it is a strong role for Reedus and one that was a big one for his personal life.
