1.9k e-commerce riders fined Rs 9.6L

Bengaluru: Traffic police conducted a special drive against e-commerce vehicles violating the rules on Saturday. In all, Rs 9.6 lakh was collected in fines from 1,859 offenders.
Aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and improving road safety, the drive was part of a broader effort to address the increasing number of

Joint commissioner of police (traffic) MN Anucheth said during the special drive, they found it was mostly e-bikes that were violating the rules. The offending vehicles were mostly micro-mobility ones, and their users didn't know the rules. Micro-mobility vehicles don't have registration numbers and their users need not wear helmets, a senior traffic police officer explained.
According to police, 79 riders were caught for riding on footpaths, 389 for breaking the no-entry rule, 354 for moving against one-way, 209 for jumping signal, 582 for not wearing helmet, 98 for illegal parking, and 148 for obstruction to traffic.

As most of the riders claimed they weren't aware of the rules, they were subjected to rule training in the respective jurisdictions for more than an hour, Anucheth said.
There was a rumour that traffic police were targeting yellow-board vehicles attached to e-commerce. The police clarified this wasn't the case. "On Saturday, cases were also booked for visible traffic violations by all types of vehicles used for e-commerce delivery, irrespective of the colour of the vehicle's number plate," Anucheth said.
E-commerce delivery agents found violating rules were slapped with a fine and then made to attend a class on traffic rules and safety. "We gathered them together and subjected them to training. As they don't need a driving licence, they aren't aware of the rules. They think they can ride on footpath, against one-way, like they are pedestrians, zipping from random places. They should follow the rules," the officer said.
Police also issued notice to 794 vehicles as the riders said they didn't have money to pay fine on the spot.
