Zulum hails NEDC's contributions to Borno's post-insurgency recovery efforts

Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum.
The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Wednesday, declared that no federal agency in Nigeria has assisted the government and people of the state better than the North East Development Commission.
The governor made this revelation to newsmen shortly after receiving some completed infrastructural projects handed over by the commission in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
According to the governor, the commission has continued to play critical roles in assisting the state through the post insurgency recovery, particularly in the area of health, education, and road constructions.
Zulum said: “I want to use this opportunity to commend the North East Development Commission and say to the world that there is no any federal agency that has done so much for the government and people of Borno State than the North East Development Commission as of now.”
The governor urged the commission to henceforth focus on projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people in the state.
“While commending them – the NEDC, I also want to inform them that what we need henceforth is to have more projects that have direct bearing in the lives of people of Borno State. We want to move forward from shorter term to long and sustainable solution.”
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, Goni Alkali, explained that the projects being released to the state government cut across health, education, and security infrastructures
He said, “we are going to hand over police barracks and some police stations, 60 boreholes constructed across the state, 3,509 solar street lights, projects at Dental and Eye hospitals, the construction of a fully equipped DSS ultra modern clinic, ICT centre for Monguno Polytechnic, alot of building materials, including blocks, zinc, ceilings, nails and wiring materials, the upgraded Central Medical Store to Pharma Grade, among others”
Goni, however, reiterated the commission’s commitment to prioritising the needs of the people of Borno state and contributing significantly to the state government’s post insurgency recovery efforts.
