A woman has appeared in court after allowing a child under the age of ten to drive a car.

Sophie-Leigh Gemmell appeared at Peterhead Sheriff’s Court in Aberdeenshire last week and admitted culpable and reckless conduct.

A  minute-long video of the little girl was posted on social media, showing her driving barefoot in the dark, during poor weather conditions.

In the footage, music can be heard playing in the car as the little girl peered over the steering wheel, and operated the windscreen wipers and indicators. Gemmell can also be heard cheering in the video.

The shocking incident took place in the Scottish village of Crimond on the 10th of July 2024.

Sentencing has been deferred for a month to allow the court to obtain a criminal justice social work report on Gemmell.
