The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide potable water to satellite towns across Abuja is fast becoming a reality.
Speaking during the commissioning of the completed loops of the Greater Abuja Water Project, Wike recalled how, during President Tinubu’s visit to China last year, a significant agreement was signed between the FCT Administration and China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) to extend water supply beyond the city centre.
“Mr. President, you didn’t only stop at completing the long-awaited Abuja water project. During our visit to China, where I was privileged to be part of your delegation, we signed an agreement with CGC to provide water to rural communities in the FCT,” Wike said.
He said the procurement process for the rural water supply was almost completed, and that the administration is set to roll out water projects in key satellite towns including Bwari, Kubwa, Karu and other underserved communities.
“You are not only providing water to the city; you are also providing water to the satellite towns,” Wike said.
The minister assured President Tinubu and Nigerians that, unlike the current water project, which took over eight years to complete, those of satellite towns would be delivered in record time.
“We believe that by your third-year anniversary, we will commission the water projects in these satellite towns,” he promised.
