Why Jeremy Clarkson charges £200 for one item at his Farmer's Dog pub shop - Celebrity - LADbible

menu costs as much as £200, leaving fans utterly baffled, but the former Top Gear star has since addressed the hefty price tag.

The new series of the show is sure to enlighten fans as to why the seemingly basic food item cost so much, but we have a rough idea already of why the costs of his newest Clarkson’s Farm project are so high.

The pie, worth £200, is not the only high-ticket item at the Farmer’s Dog. Meals at the pub cost up to £19, with small plates charging around £9.

While the £5.50 he charges for pints may have become standard in the UK, many still raised their eyebrows at this being the cost for a pub that isn’t exactly in a city centre.

Despite this, Clarkson has made the claim that the prices are this high in part because he is actually losing money from the pub.

He said in a column for The Times: “I do ask, if you drop by, to remember this. Your lunch, if it arrives at all, is costing us a lot more than it’s costing you - so please be kind.

“Now a business-minded person would look at these costs and realise that with British-only rules in place, a hotdog was going to be priced at about £45. But I’m not a business-minded person.

“So I just filled my heart with hope, asked an AI program to work out what the average price of lunch in a Cotswolds pub is and just charged that.

“It’s possible that for every customer who comes through the door, I’d lose about £10.”

In short, the pork pie is £200 because it is f*cking massive.

The pie was shown in a video of the things on offer at the pub shop, which included a large pie, an extra-large pie, and an extra-extra-large pie.

All three are handmade to order, and Clarkson took to social media to clarify that the ones in the shop are actually filled with straw.

He also posted on Instagram saying: “This now infamous £200 pork pie is actually made of straw!

“Because the real giant pies we make fresh to order for our customers with the best British farmed ingredients and to whatever size you want.”

He called the pies ‘great value for as many people as you want to cater for’ and stated it was so delicious that their ‘Steak and Hawkstone Pie is now entered in the most prestigious pie competition in the country’.
