Life is not imitating art for The White Lotus stars Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood.
Rumors about a feud between the actors have been swirling for months ever since fans discovered that Goggins unfollowed his onscreen love interest Wood on Instagram. The rumor was further fueled when Goggins left a since-deleted positive comment on a video shared on SNL's Instagram. The video featured Sarah Sherman parodying Wood by wearing enlarged teeth. Wood had called the sketch "mean" and "unfunny." Later, in a tense interview with the U.K.'s The Times, Goggins abruptly shut down questions about Wood which sent the internet into believing there really was a feud.
Now, the duo is finally speaking out against the alleged feud in their first interview together since the rumors started.
"There is no feud," Goggins told Variety. "I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me... She’s special. There is no feud. She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply."
Agreeing, Wood further elaborated on what started the rumors: Goggins unfollowing her on Instagram. "I think it’s such a comment on where we’re at culturally," Wood said. "Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don’t give a shite about Instagram. Why not have conversations about the story and Rick and Chelsea and enjoy it?"

While Wood wanted to speak out earlier to shut down all rumors of a feud, she believed it wouldn't help. "Eventually I just started to sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing," she said.
Goggins added, "[J]ust to put this to bed? The following or unfollowing. I’m a grown-ass man." The actor claimed he treated Wood the same as he has all his former costars. "When I left Justified, I went up to Tim [Olyphant], and I hugged him and I said, 'I love you, and I hope I see you in rooms for the rest of my life.' I didn’t talk to him for almost two years. I’ve done that with every single thing that I’ve done."
Variety reports that Goggins cried while speaking about his experience filming The White Lotus with Wood because of how it helped him find healing over his wife's suicide in 2004. He spent three years after her death traveling to places including Thailand and Bangkok, and when he got to set to film season 3, he realized it was the same place he had visited previously. Then, they shot their characters Rick and Chelsea's doomed love story, which ended in both of their deaths in the finale.
"My catharsis in this experience was different than other people’s, because of my history in this place," Goggins said. "I knew what we had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea. And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let [Wood] know, 'This is what I've gotta do. And she was extremely supportive about that.'"
That's why he took some space from Wood — and the rest of the White Lotus cast — after filming ended.
"I needed to just back away from everyone," Goggins said. "I haven’t spoken to anyone. I couldn’t handle it. Judge me or don’t. I don’t give a f--- what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that’s what I needed to do for me to process all of this."
During the interview, Goggins picked up his phone to re-follow Wood, saying it was a part of him bidding goodbye to his character. He adds, "Now Aimee and I will be friends for f---ing ever."
