Where to Eat During Ramadan in D.C. After a Long Day of Fasting

During the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset, many come together at the end of each day to break their fast.

Some local restaurants offer special celebratory iftar menus for a refreshing change of pace during the annual, month-long holiday. This year, Ramadan starts the evening of Friday, February 28, and concludes at sundown on Sunday, March 30.

For the first three nights of iftar, the Arlington hookah lounge hosts a buffet for $19.99 per person (and $29.99 every day after that during the duration of Ramadan). 2515 Lee Highway, Arlington, Virginia

Tysons Corner’s critically acclaimed Iranian restaurant from chef and two-time James Beard semifinalist Chris Morgan showcases a special menu for iftar. Georgetown’s Lebanese standout offers a special prix fixe menu for Ramadan, served daily from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The $55-per-person spread includes a rotating soup, choice of meze (fattoush salad, tabouleh, hummus, Lebanese spinach pies), one entree (mixed grill or stew of the day), and drinks like a mint lemonade. 2815 M Street NW

Celebrate breaking the fast this Ramadan with a fast-casual meal from Sheesh Grill in Falls Church and Chantilly from Friday, February 28 through Saturday, March 29. The three-course meal ($23 for adults and $17 for kids) features apps like potato pakora and soup, plus a choice of entrees like kabuli rice, chicken korma, and beef kofta, and rice milk pudding for dessert with a refreshing fountain drink. During the 30 days of Ramadan, Mt. Vernon Triangle’s Turkish spot serves a special four-course iftar menu ($44.95). Red lentil soup is followed by a choice of starters and dips (hummus, falafel, or muhammara); an assortment of char-grilled kebabs, mixed grill platter, moussaka, and cauliflower stew; and desserts like baklava or oven-baked rice pudding. 425 I Street NW
