The Hammers stunned with a 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium; Jarrod Bowen heading the decisive goal; Arsenal meanwhile had substitute Myles Lewis-Skelly sent off and the result means they remain eight points behind leaders Liverpool.
Meanwhile for West Ham, sit 16th with 30 points from 26 games played and are 13 points clear of the drop zone.
West Ham boss Graham Potter, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “Massive performance for us. Delighted for the players and the fans. Tactically very disciplined performance. Really good.”
On Jarrod Bowen and the team as a whole: “Jarrod [Bowen] and Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] and Mo [Kudus] give us a counter-attacking threat. We defended with discipline and resilience but we carry an attacking threat as well.
“The win brings confidence and belief. This result is really big for us and hopefully, it allows us to move forward in a positive way.”
On Myles Lewis Skelly’s red card for fouling Mohammed Kudus: “From where I saw it, I thought it was a red card and Mo would have been away and 1v1 with the keeper so it would have been a tricky one for the referee not to give it.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “Very painful loss. First of all, congratulations to West Ham for the victory. For big parts of the game, our performance was not at the level required. We lacked a lot of precision, quality, repetition of positive actions. We weren’t at our level and that allowed very simple giveaways.”
On failing to convert chances: “I don’t want to put it down to injuries. Our overall play and level was not at the level we needed and first of all it is my responsibility for that.”
On Myles Lewis Skelly’s red card: “We wanted to be more at it and we looked more of a threat. Then Myles gets sent off and it makes things even tougher and we could not score. Tomorrow is another day. We have to be very disappointed but we are still in February and there are many games to go. What happened today can happen to any team and we can only control what we do.”
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen: “Everyone worked so hard. We knew everyone would have to dig in, defend really well and every person to a man did that today and that’s why we’ve got the result. Everyone wrote us off but we never wrote ourselves off because we know we can win any football game.”
On scoring his 50th Premier League goal: “I won the ball and Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] made a great run and it was a beautiful ball in and I couldn’t miss. I knew I was one off 50 and it was really important for me today to score the goal and win us the game.”
West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus: “Much needed three points. It has been a difficult season but it is one of those wins we will never forget about. We were focused and I’m glad we got the three points. We played a top team and we knew they would attack a lot. Everyone did their duties.”
On the red card incident where he was fouled by Myles Lewis-Skelly: “I was pressing to get the ball. From the pitch, I took the ball off him and then they gave the red card. I tried to get the shot off. If I wasn’t stopped, I was heading direct to the goal against the keeper.”
On what the win does for his side: “Very, very good boost. Still, we have a lot of games to go. We got these three points and then we focus on the next one and keep going.”
: Well done, @WestHam. Your fans doing you proud 😂
: This will rattle a few 🤣
: U just gotta laugh 😂😂😂
: I think we should all just enjoy tonight, as come Thursday and know #WHUFC as we all do, we are more than likely to lose to Leicester now. It’s the @WestHamWayCom we all love!!! ❤️ ⚒
: He still loves us, really.
: Didn’t Declan Rice leave West Ham to join a bigger club and win trophies? Can anyone ask him how that’s going
: I thought Declan Rice left West Ham to win trophies? 🧐😂
@adamglenn1990: We have spent about 150m on left backs and we need a left back. 😂 Calafiori is okay in the final 3rd but hes an awful defender. Lewis skelly is either a midfielder or don’t play him at all. Declan rice again has a stoner against west ham when it really matters. Odegaard out asap
@WestHamRyan96: Fuck you Arsenal. Fuck you Lewis-Skelly. Fuck you Mikel Arteta. And last but not least, an absolutely massive fuck you Declan Rice! Great result. Great performance. Well done West Ham. That was a brilliant performance from everyone, but Kudus and Scarles in particular, wow!
