The famous team from Bologna still concluded its EuroLeague campaign in a respectable manner. In the final round, they played exceptionally well on the road against Barcelona, for whom this win was essential in order to secure a playoff spot. Dusko Ivanovic’s squad was in the lead with about 90 seconds remaining in the game, but ultimately faltered in the final stretch and left Catalonia with a loss. Before this game, Virtus had recorded four consecutive victories—two in the EuroLeague and two in the Italian Serie A. In the domestic league, they hold an 18-7 record and currently share the top spot in the standings.

In the first matchup between these teams, it was a hard-fought and high-scoring battle, with Brescia narrowly coming out on top (98-97), thanks to a made free throw by Jason Burnell and a turnover by Daniel Hackett. There is no doubt that Virtus will now be highly motivated to get revenge on the visitors, hoping to leapfrog them in the standings and secure the head-to-head advantage. To make that happen, they’ll need to find an answer for the outstanding performance of Miro Bilan. That’s why Virtus’ big men, Ante Zizic and Mouhamet Diouf, will have to be aggressive to wear down the Croatian international and possibly get him into foul trouble. In addition, Virtus would benefit from a slower-paced and more controlled style of basketball.

Brescia has been truly phenomenal this season, and their results back that up. They currently sit atop the Serie A standings, alongside Trapani and Virtus, and have recorded wins against very strong opponents in their last two games. First, they edged out Trento on the road (78-75), then defeated Venezia at home in a hard-fought contest (97-89). Brescia opted to compete on only one front this season, which has worked well for their roster that isn’t particularly deep and includes many experienced and older players.

This season, Brescia boasts one of the top three offenses in Serie A, and they score the second-most points per game despite not playing at a very fast pace. Everything starts with the brilliant Miro Bilan, who, as a center, is the team’s top assist man. Alongside him, Amedeo Della Valle and Nikola Ivanovic have been playing excellently, while Jason Burnell, Demetre Rivers, Maurice Ndour, and more recently Chris Dowe, also contribute significantly when needed. In the last round, they had a tough match against Venezia, managing to break their resistance only in the fourth quarter. However, Brescia has had more than enough time to rest and prepare for this very important game.

In the first part of the season, Brescia defeated Virtus on their home court with a score of 98-97.

Both teams are free of injury concerns.

Virtus has been playing really well lately, and it’s fair to say they’ve truly shined in their last five games, where they dominated Milano and Alba Berlin, and gave heavily favored Barcelona a serious challenge. Dusko Ivanovic has earned a contract extension for next season, and there’s no doubt he’ll give his all to make sure his team looks as strong as possible in Serie A. If they win this matchup, they’ll have a great chance to secure the top spot at the end of the regular season. We believe they’ll do just that—and not only win, but cover the spread against Brescia with a comfortable margin.
