UK Court Hears Man Accused Of Killing 14-Year-Old Nigerian-Born Daniel Anjorin Believed He Was Fighting 'Evil Forces' In Cannabis-Induced Psychosis | Sahara Reporters
Monzo, 37, from Newham, east London, UK, attacked Daniel Anjorin as the boy walked to school in Hainault, north-east London, on 30 April last year.
A Spanish-Brazilian national, Marcus Arduini Monzo, who is reportedly experiencing a cannabis-induced psychotic episode, has been accused of killing a 14-year-old Nigerian-born schoolboy with a Japanese sword, a court has been told.
Monzo, 37, from Newham, east London, UK, attacked Daniel Anjorin as the boy walked to school in Hainault, north-east London, on 30 April last year.
Prosecutor Tom Little, KC, said, “The assaults were informed by his delusional beliefs that he and his family were in mortal danger, and that he was engaged in a battle against evil forces at time of revelation or Armageddon.”
He is also accused of attacking four others, including two police officers, during a 20-minute rampage. Prosecutors told the Old Bailey that Monzo’s mental state had been “materially altered” by cannabis use and that he had “developed a cannabis-induced fully fledged psychotic episode characterised by reality distortion symptoms.”
Monzo reportedly “moved quickly like a predator” behind Daniel before inflicting a “devastating and unsurvivable chopping injury” to the boy’s face and neck.
The court heard Monzo left his home just before 6.30am wearing a yellow Quiksilver hoodie and black trousers, Telegraph UK reports.
His attack began when he drove his van into pedestrian Donato Iwule, causing him to be thrown into a garden. Monzo then approached Mr Iwule with a samurai sword and swung it at him, but Mr Iwule managed to escape.
Daniel was walking to school wearing sports clothes, a backpack, and headphones when Monzo allegedly attacked him with the sword. Emergency services were called after the attack.
Monzo is said to have then attacked PC Yasmin Margaret Mechem-Whitfield, pursued her through alleyways while still armed, and entered a nearby house where he attacked a couple in their bedroom. Their lives were spared because their four-year-old child woke up and started crying.
He was finally disarmed and detained after climbing onto the roof of a garage where he attacked another police officer.
In a police interview, Monzo said his personality switched and described the incident as being like “the movie Hunger Games.” He also said that one of his personalities is a professional assassin.
Monzo denies eight of the 10 charges against him, including murder and attempted murder of several individuals. He admits to possession of two offensive weapons — a katana sword and a tanto katana sword. The trial continues.
