UDA moves to rein in dissent, two MCAs on chopping block
The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has summoned two nominated Members of County Assembly over allegations of disloyalty and support for a rival political outfit linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Joyce Mwangi (Nairobi County) and Ann Thumbi (Nyeri County) are accused of actively promoting the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) by participating in its events, wearing DCP-branded merchandise, and allegedly encouraging other members to defect from UDA.
The party’s Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Charles Njenga, has issued show-cause letters to the two MCAs, warning that their actions amount to gross misconduct and a violation of the UDA Constitution and Code of Conduct.
“Your actions outlined above amount to incitement of party members to leave the UDA party and total disregard the party constitution, rules and the code of conduct,” wrote Njenga.
If found guilty, the two leaders face severe sanctions, including suspension, expulsion, fines, or any other penalty deemed appropriate under the UDA Constitution. The Disciplinary Committee has also indicated that any recommendations will be forwarded to the party’s National Executive Committee for ratification and further action.
This development comes just weeks after the party withdrew the nomination of Gloria Orwoba as a Nominated Senator over similar allegations of disloyalty.
The move signals a renewed effort by UDA to tighten internal discipline and consolidate loyalty within its ranks.
