Speaking at the event, which was held in the Kakuri area of Kaduna on Tuesday, the governor said the project is the first of its kind in the northern part of the country.

The governor said the project will be executed in collaboration with a French firm and the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA).

Sani said the project would enhance public transportation, foster sustainable urban development, and improve citizens’ quality of life.

He said the project would also serve as a vital hub for the state transport network to the southern axis of Kaduna.

“By consolidating the various motor parks into a centralised location, we aim to streamline operations, reduce congestion, improve accessibility, and enhance safety and security for everyone,” the governor said.

“The KBRT and southern terminal are the latest initiatives geared towards realising our administration’s vision for a more connected and efficient transportation system in Kaduna state.”

Sani said his administration had been consulting with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors for their support and commitment towards the smooth implementation of the master plan on transportation in the state.

He said President Bola Tinubu is impressed with the project and has promised the full support of the federal government.

“True to Mr. President’s words, the sum of N100 billion was provided in the 2025 budget of the federal government for the construction of the Kaduna Light Rail Transit (KLRT),” he said.

Marc Fonbaustier, French ambassador to Nigeria, said he was impressed by the progress in the field of transportation and the work done by KADSTRA in advancing the project through the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) with €110 million investment.

He said as the first city outside Lagos to develop BRT, Kaduna has become a model to cities in another Nigerian region.

Fonbaustier commended the state government for choosing the BRT system, which, according to him, has more capacity than the metro or train system.
