Coimbatore: A man and a woman died in two separate accidents in the city on Saturday morning. A 40-year-old man was run over by a private bus, on Oppanakkara Street near Prakasam bus stop.

The deceased has been identified as Kathiresan, of Nachipalayam in Coimbatore district.

He was working as a research and development engineer at a colour sorting machine manufacturing company in Chinnavedampatti.The accident took place when he was on his way to work. Police said Dinesh Kumar, 31, of Kovaipudur, who was riding a bike, hit Kathiresan's electric scooter from behind. Kathiresan lost his balance, fell on his left side, and came under the rear wheels of a private bus.

He died on the spot. Police sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for a postmortem. A case has been registered against Dinesh.In another incident, a 39-year-old woman was run over by a concrete mixer truck on Edaiyarpalayam- Vadavalli road in the city. The deceased has been identified as C Jasmine Ruth, of Bommanampalayam in the city. Police said she was on the way to work on her scooter, when the accident took place. The concrete mixer truck hit her motorcycle and ran over her when she fell on the road. She died on the spot. Locals stopped the truck and alerted the police, who sent the body to the CMCH for a postmortem. A case has been registered, and further investigation is on.
