Twin sister of Alabama 5-star QB has died
Kierston Russell, the twin sister of Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Keelon Russell, has died, state officials in Alabama confirmed on Thursday.
Kierston and Keelon had just graduated from Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas, last month, and even danced together on stage at their graduation. The two headed to Tuscaloosa, Ala., together as Keelon went to play quarterback for the Tide. But Kierston died on Wednesday, and the Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit issued a statement about the matter on Thursday.
“There has been considerable media attention concerning a death investigation that occurred on June 4, 2025. After speaking with the family, and in an attempt to quell media inquiries, they have given permission to confirm the death of Kierston Russell. The investigation is ongoing … and at this time appears to be non-criminal in nature. Therefore, at this time no other information will be released,” the statement said.
“We ask that the media respect the privacy of the family during this time.”
Kierston played basketball at Duncanville and was part of their 2024 state championship-winning team. Her twin brother Keelon is a five-star quarterback recruit and incoming freshman for the Tide.
Kierston did not post on Instagram too frequently, but her latest post was in October 2024 and was basketball-themed.
Keelon reposted via his Instagram Story several messages of support he received from others.
