Troops kill Boko Haram commander, dozens of terrorists in Borno, Yobe
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), supported by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), have killed a Boko Haram commander, Mallam Jidda, and dozens of other terrorists in coordinated operations across Borno and Yobe states.
Jidda, identified as the Ameer (commander) of the Ngorgore and Malumtib hideouts, was killed on June 9, 2025, in the Nggazalgana community of Gujba Local Council, Yobe State, which is part of the Timbuktu Triangle of Sambisa Forest.
In a statement released yesterday in Maiduguri, the acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations for OPHK, Captain Rueben Kovangiya, detailed the successful operation.
He said that during the approximately hour-long engagement, troops encountered the insurgents and overwhelmed them with superior firepower, resulting in Jidda’s death and many others fleeing with gunshot wounds.
Similarly, Captain Kovangiya reported that troops continued their operations in the Malam Fatori general area of Abadam Local Council, Borno State, eliminating an unspecified number of terrorists and recovering a cache of arms and equipment. Recoveries from both operations include AK-47 rifles, motorcycles, AK-47 magazines, rocket-propelled gun tubes, hand grenades, radios, and a large quantity of ammunition. Captain Kovangiya reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to restoring peace and security in Nigeria’s North-East region.
