Ho, May 24, GNA-Madam Dzifa Abla Gomashie, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, together with key players from the industry, has embarked on a tour of tourist sites in the Volta Region.

The team was joined by Volta Regional Minister Mr James Gunu, who also promised his full support.

The visit aims to spotlight the region’s untapped tourism gems while calling for swift government action to address infrastructure challenges hampering their growth.

According to Madam Gomashie, the Volta Region is home to over 120 documented tourist sites, with many more yet to be discovered and promoted.

“The Volta Region is blessed with incredible natural and cultural heritage sites, some of which are still unknown to many Ghanaians. It is our duty to spotlight these places, not only for cultural preservation but also as a means of boosting the local economy through tourism,” she said.

During the tour, Mad Gomashie appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritise the development of access roads leading to these tourist destinations noting that improving infrastructure is critical for unlocking the full tourism potential of the region.

“I am pleading with my colleague the Minister of Roads, Kwame Agbodza to urgently work on roads leading to these sites. Good roads are vital for tourism growth, community development, and increased revenue generation for both local governments and the nation,” she added.

The Minister assured local stakeholders that the government remained committed to promoting and investing in the creative and tourism sectors, particularly in regions with untapped potential like Volta region.

She had engaged 18 Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region and pledged a close-knit collaboration towards unlocking the vast and untapped tourism potential to maximize the sector.

The Regional Minister gave assurance that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) is committed to working with the Ministry and related agencies to support and build the capacity of MMDCEs and improve infrastructure.

“We are poised to make the Volta Region a leading tourism destination in Ghana,” he declared.

The tour continues with visits to some key sites, where engagements with traditional leaders and community members are expected to shape policy directions for the sector.
