Rebecca De Mornay, reflecting on her past relationship with Tom Cruise, expressed immense pride in his accomplishments since their breakout film, Risky Business. She acknowledged his ability to capture the zeitgeist and achieve remarkable success in Hollywood. De Mornay, currently promoting her new thriller Saint Claire, fondly remembers their early days filming in Chicago.

has heaped praise on her Risky Business co-star and ex, Tom Cruise, saying that she is really proud of him. Mornay, 65, dated the Mission: Impossible actor for two and a half years in the '80s. “We started this together, and look what he did with it,” the actress told Page Six. De Mornay, who starred alongside Cruise, 63, in their joint breakout film, was asked about her connection with Cruise. She now appears in the new thriller Saint Claire.“I’m really proud of him,” the actress told the outlet in an interview published on Saturday, July 19, 2025. De Mornay's remarks on Cruise come more than four decades after she shared the screen with him in 1983's Risky Business. In the film, Cruise plays high school student Joel Goodsen, who stays home alone while his parents are on vacation. Along the way, he meets a prostitute named Lana (De Mornay).


As far as De Mornay and Cruise's real-life relationship is concerned, the actress previously confirmed that she and the Top Gun star dated briefly after making the movie. Speaking to Page Six, she compared Cruise to a “major chord” while describing herself as a “minor" chord.

“He's like, ‘I am Top Gun, and that's what America really wanted, and so he's fulfilled it," she said. “He is a brilliant, brilliant interpreter of what the zeitgeist is. I’m really, really proud of knowing him from when we were in the suburbs of Chicago [filming Risky Business] and knowing what he wanted and where it is now.” “We started this together, and look what he did with it,” she added.

After getting a Golden Globe nomination, his first, for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, thanks to his work in Risky Business, Cruise starred in blockbusters including the Mission: Impossible series and Top Gun.Meanwhile, De Mornay has appeared in films including The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and The Slugger's Wife. Her latest movie, Saint Claire, which also stars Bella Thorne, Ryan Phillippe, and Frank Whaley, is available now in select theaters and on demand.
