In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to Nyesom Wike, minister of the FCT, said the inauguration of completed projects in the nation’s capital will kick off on June 10.

Olayinka said the projects include the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC), bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, and the Apo-Wassa Road.

Other projects are the N16 interchange and roads connecting Maitama through Katampe to Jahi; the inner northern expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa road), CN8 from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the court of appeal, the N20 flyover on onnex Kubwa road; and the Life Camp junction to Ring Road III.

Olayinka added that the FCTA would also inaugurate the Kabusa-Takushara Access road, Kabusa-Ketti Access Road, an access road in Giri District, a 15km road from A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council, and roads in Ushafa, War College, and the army checkpoint in Bwari area council.

In a related development, the minister’s aide said the FCT executive committee approved the contract for upgrading streetlights along the Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway (Ring Road I).

He quoted Richard Dauda, the acting executive secretary of the federal capital development authority (FCDA), as saying that the current lighting system, installed between 2005 and 2006, has become obsolete and no longer provides adequate illumination.

“The project involves the upgrade of the obsolete streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, a 14-kilometer 10-lane expressway from Maitama to Gudu,” Dauda was quoted as saying.

He added that the upgrade is necessary due to advancements in street lighting technology, adding that a hybrid system would be deployed to enhance security and visibility in Abuja.
