President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Benue State on Wednesday in an attempt to address the conflict plaguing communities in the state, which has claimed many lives.

This was announced in a press statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday.

Onanuga noted that the President had to reschedule his official visit to Kaduna to make the trip.

“President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his official visit to Kaduna State. Instead, he will travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, as part of renewed efforts to foster peace and address the persistent conflict affecting communities in the state,” Onanuga said.

The presidential spokesperson added that Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Benue aims to assess the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and wreaked havoc in the state.

The President is expected to meet with traditional rulers, politicians, religious rulers, community leaders, youth groups and relevant stakeholders to seek solutions to the crisis.

Ahead of the visit, the President has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the heads of other security agencies to the state.

The Guardian earlier reported that Egbetokun arrived in Benue on Monday following the President’s directives.

Over 100 people were killed in an attack on Yelewata, a community in Benue, by suspected herdsmen. The attack threw the entire country into mourning, and youths in the state staged a demonstration on Sunday.

Tinubu condemned the attack in a statement released on Sunday night.
