President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the family of Mrs. Adenike Ebunoluwa Oyagbola, a distinguished educationist, and diplomat.

She is Nigeria’s first female minister of cabinet rank.

The late Oyagbola died at the age of 94.

He also extended his sympathies to the government and people of Ogun State over the loss of their illustrious daughter.

In a Sunday statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu paid tribute to Oyagbola, describing her as “a trailblazer and a beacon of inspiration for women in Nigeria.”

He highlighted her historic role in breaking barriers for women in leadership.

“As the nation’s first female minister of cabinet rank, she broke barriers and paved the way for countless women to aspire to and achieve leadership roles in the country,” Tinubu remarked, emphasising her pioneering spirit.

Oyagbola served as the Minister of National Planning from 1979 to 1983, playing a crucial role in implementing Nigeria’s Fourth Development Plan.

Tinubu praised her “significant contributions to national development,” noting that her efforts laid a foundation for the country’s sustainable growth and progress.

He further acknowledged her lasting impact on youth development, empowerment, and the promotion of arts and culture.

“Mrs. Oyagbola’s unwavering commitment to youth development, empowerment, and the promotion of arts and culture has left an indelible mark on our nation.

“Her legacy will continue to inspire generations, particularly in the creative industry, where her impact remains deeply felt,” he stated.

Reflecting on her integrity, the President noted, “In an era where threats to ethical standards are increasing, we shall miss Mrs. Oyagbola’s steadfast commitment to these principles.

“Our nation reveres her place in its history, and we will deeply feel her absence.”

In a condolence message on Saturday, Abiodun described the late politician’s life as a model of shrewdness, courage, humility, and an unwavering passion for service.
