This ultra rare Irish name belonging to a famous rockstar was given to just three babies last year
We love Irish names and we’re always on the look out for unique and fresh picks to shine a spotlight on!
Our latest dose of inspiration comes in line with the global rise of one critically acclaimed band, Fontaines D.C. and more specifically the homegrown group’s frontman.
A mythological Irish baby name is becoming popular with new parents

The Starburster singer is none other than 29-year-old Grian Chatten who’s strong Irish name is very fitting for summer, meaning ‘sun’.
Born in Barrow-in-Furness, England to an English mum and Irish dad, the future star moved across the pond to Ireland when he was a baby.

While we’re sure the name will soar in popularity as the band has done, Grian is a very rare moniker on these shores, given to just three babies last year. In 2024, it ranked in at 785th place.
Grian has only appeared twice since charts began in 1964. According to the CSO, it debuted in 2020, once again being doled out on three occasions.
Pronounced ‘gree-in’, Grian would make a lovely choice for any 2025 baby and we predict a definite rise in popularity!
