We’re celebrating Mother’s Day a little differently this year. While celebrating the mums and mother figures in our lives is super important and necessary, we wanted to honour the ‘Mothers’ who have claimed that title solely through their cultural impact, children not necessary. Think fashion icons, activists, actors and models creating change and inspiring generations through their work. This one goes out to all the Mothers!

One of the very few nepo babies to carve out a separate identity from their celebrity parent, Tracee is a certified icon. With culturally impactful shows like Girlfriends on her acting roster (we’re still not over the season 8 ending by the way), there’s no doubt about her Mother status, and we haven’t even got to the fashion yet! With a wardrobe full of vintage finds, cult buys and envy-inducing brands, Tracee has cemented herself as a style icon, and she deserves every bit of that accolade.

While she smashes her acting roles out of the park, Hunter is more than just an actress. She’s also a producer, model, illustrator and an inspiration to many in the LGBTQIA+ community. Her breakout role as Jules Vaughn in Euphoria (season 3, we want to run to you!) put her on the map as a rising star to watch and we’ve all watched her soar from the small screen to the big with roles in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds and Snakes and Cuckoo.

A vet in the game and one of TIME Magazine’s Women of the Year, Nicole Kidman is a force in the industry, and when she isn’t starring in or producing hit TV shows and films, she’s creating change. In 2017, inspired by the #MeToo movement, Nicole pledged to work with a female director every 18 months. Since that point, she’s worked as an actress and producer with 19 female filmmakers and has utilised her influence to create opportunities for other women. One word. Mother.

Let’s talk Laverne Cox’s achievements. She’s the first trans person on the cover of British Vogue; she’s the first openly trans person to be nominated for an acting Emmy and the first trans person to win an Emmy as an executive producer. It’s a lot of ‘firsts’ and a lot of inspiration for many people that come behind her. Laverne constantly uses her life experience to be a voice for trans people and there’s no doubt that her activism shouldn't be celebrated.
