This is not how you recover from a humiliating defeat - Mpraeso MP blasts NPP
Davis Opoku Ansah is Member of Parliament for Mpraeso
The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Opoku Ansah, has criticised executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for urging members to submit their proposals for the party’s constitutional amendments.
In a Facebook post reacting to a press statement released by the party on April 25, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, which called on members to submit their proposals for the party’s constitutional amendments, Opoku Ansah expressed the view that the party is not taking its members seriously.
He criticised the approach, stating that it is not the way the party can recover from their electoral loss.
According to him, the party has yet to make available copies of the Mike Oquaye committee report, which examined the factors that led to the party’s defeat, for its members to review.
However, they are quick to demand proposals for constitutional amendments, questioning the basis on which the party plans to make reforms when it has yet to acknowledge what is broken and needs to be fixed.
“Surprisingly, the same party, of which we are all integral members, charged a committee to investigate the reasons behind our electoral defeat. When the committee visited the Mpraeso Constituency, I had to rush down to meet with them and immediately return to Parliament to fulfil my duties. That’s how seriously I took the exercise.
“Now that the committee has completed its work, not even a communique has been issued to share the executive summary of its findings. Instead, are we being invited to submit proposals for constitutional amendments?” he said.
He added, “Proposals based on what data? On what facts? On what diagnosis? The national party must take its members seriously. This is not how you recover from a humiliating defeat. We cannot pretend to fix the structure without first acknowledging what broke it. If we fail to open up the sore and press it properly, it will not heal. Let us get it right.”
