There is something to be said, however, for how often genre titles appear on the ranking. The Top 3 most-streamed shows of all time, for instance, are either horror or sci-fi. I guess audiences really just love genre? I love genre, too, so bully for all of us. The latest entry to crack the list is one of Netflix’s most recent successes, and arguably one of the quickest titles to ever make the ranking. Learn more below:
Per Netflix: A crowded airport. A dangerous suitcase. A mysterious criminal mastermind. On Christmas Eve, a security officer faces the ultimate travel nightmare.
Jaume Collet-Serra’s (, , ) action thriller is officially the third most-watched movie on Netflix of all time, generating an impressive 320,100,000 hours viewed. Collet-Serra is one of this generation’s most dependable directorial talents. His stylish chamber pieces are remarkably excessive, culling considerable polish from high-concept malarky. Remember in when Blake Lively befriended a seagull? No one but Collet-Serra could make that work.

It’s only natural, then, that his latest foray into action-heavy suspense would prove so successful. Taron Egerton’s Ethan Kopek is a TSA officer at LAX drawn into a mysterious conspiracy when Jason Bateman’s Traveler demands via earbud Ethan let a particular suitcase through the carry-on scanner lest his girlfriend be killed. It’s nonsense, but festive, impressive nonsense, and it was one of last year’s late, great surprises.
Fans have been thrilled with since its release, no doubt carrying the film on to soaring success. Check out some choice reactions below:

TSA agent gets blackmailed by a terrorist who is aiming a sniper rifle at his girlfriend to allow a suitcase with a bomb pass through security.

I finally got around to watching Netflix’s “Carry-On,” which I had started but paused after just the opening scene on its release day. It was great fun. While it lacks some realism, it’s a “Christmas movie” with a 90s action-thriller vibe that the whole family can enjoy.

Consider me a big fan of Netflix’s new release #CarryOn. There’s nothing in this film you haven’t seen before & this movie doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel: it’s just a good old fashion, throwback thriller. Taron Egerton has long been one of the most overlooked young… pic.twitter.com/cXicszdZnu
