Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson opened up about his contract renewal for the show in his May 24, 2025, exclusive interview with Page Six. While talking about the possible cast changes and his future at SNL, Kenan mentioned that the recently concluded season 50's ending was bittersweet.
Despite being a cast member on the show for 22 years, Kenan Thompson stated that he was uncertain about his contract renewal. He said one can't know what the future holds and that he didn't want to be the "stale old man."
"You just never know what the future holds. I don't want to be in the way of someone else or I don't want to be the stale old man riding the same thing. That doesn't really happen that much at 'SNL' but there's no guarantees, I guess," said Kenan Thompson.
Viewers recently witnessed Saturday Night Live concluding its recent season 50. After being with the show for 22 years, one of the cast members, Kenan Thompson, talked about his contract renewal for the upcoming season. In his exclusive interview with Page Six, Kenan said that it felt like there would be "a lot of change" on the NBC show.
"Especially this year where it feels like there's maybe, possibly, a lot of change next year."
Elaborating on possible cast changes for the upcoming SNL Season 51, Kenan added:
"You want everyone to stay forever, knowing that people may be making decisions this summer...it's always like you want kids to stay young."
Fans must remember how the show's finale mentioned Sarah Sherman's departure, in a joke. During his Weekend Update segment, Colin Jost also stated that he was eyeing his boss Lorne Michaels' job.
Talking about his contract renewal for the upcoming Saturday Night Live Season 51, Kenan Thompson said that he hasn't yet signed the contract. While he is hopeful, he certainly is not overconfident, even though he has been a cast member of the show for the longest time.
After being with the show for over two decades, Kenan admitted that he loves it and being on SNL is one of his favorite places to be:
"I mean, I love that place. It's one of my favorite places to be."
Viewers must know the show has yet to reveal the official cast members' list for their upcoming season.
