President John Dramani Mahama has called upon members of the nation’s military council to consider the far-reaching impact of their decisions on the future of Ghana's armed forces.

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, March 24, Mr Mahama urged the Council to safeguard the welfare of the men and women who serve in uniform, as they risk their lives in service to the country.

"The decisions you make as a council shape the future of our armed forces," the President noted.

He called on the nation’s military council to approach their duties with the utmost wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to national service.

“It is therefore imperative that you approach this duty with wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to national service,” he said.

He noted that the armed forces must remain adaptable and prepared to face a range of security threats, which have evolved beyond traditional warfare.

“In today’s world, the nature of our security threat is rapidly evolving, from terrorism and cybercrime to political instability and climate-related security challenges,” Mahama said.

He empahsised the importance of maintaining a state of readiness within Ghana's armed forces, noting that they must be prepared to respond effectively to any security challenge that may arise.

“Our armed forces must remain prepared to respond effectively in any circumstances,” he noted.

He further highlighted the need for continuous investment in the military’s readiness, while also noting the importance of ensuring the well-being of the personnel who stand on the front lines.

Mahama stressed that the success of the armed forces is not only determined by their tactical and operational capabilities, but also by the support and care provided to the men and women in uniform.
