has a major question mark looming over its head — even bigger than the one The Riddler wears in the comics — as the movie has been delayed countless times. The script is the cause of the delays, as Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin have missed several deadlines set by to turn in the final draft. While James Gunn and DC don't mind the delays, so long as the script is of a high quality, it has caused fans to speculate that the film has quietly been canceled. Thankfully, that isn't the case, as The Batman Part II has finally received the script and production update we've all been waiting for.

The report comes via Puck's Matthew Belloni, who revealed that The Batman Part II is finally moving in the right direction. After months of delays, Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin are reportedly ready to turn in the final script on Monday (June 23). The report also claims that the film will have a six-month pre-production window before cameras roll. The Batman Part II is believed to enter production in January 2026.

While Puck is one of the more reputable sources for Hollywood scoops, it should still be noted that no one at DC Studios or Warner Bros has confirmed this report. As things officially stand, Reeves and Tomlin are still hard at work on the movie's script, and the final draft doesn't have a public deadline yet. As for the production start date, that also remains unconfirmed. However, given The Batman Part II is currently slated to release on October 1, 2027, cameras will need to start rolling sooner rather than later in order to meet that deadline.

Following the tremendous critical and commercial success of 2022's The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, and Jeffrey Wright, Part II is one of DC's most anticipated movies, alongside Superman (July 11). The internet may be going stir-crazy about the repeated delays to the movie, but James Gunn and DC Studios still have every confidence in Matt Reeves' sequel.

"I’ll also say Batman Part II is not canceled," James Gunn recently confirmed while promoting Superman. "That’s the other thing I hear all the time — that Batman Part II is canceled. It’s not canceled." James Gunn addressed the constant delays to the film's production timeline, revealing that DC Studios is accepting of the delays, as they know it will mean a better script from Reeves and Tomlin. "We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he’s doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man."

The Batman Part II is currently slated for theatrical release on October 1, 2027. Pattinson and Wright are both expected to return as Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon, respectively. Zoë Kravitz's return as Selina Kyle remains uncertain. One of the biggest mysteries surrounding the film is its villain. This likely won't be confirmed until the film's script has been finalized.
