The Amazing Race season 37’s most controversial team, and , crossed the finish line in third place during the finale — and fans had plenty to say.

“Thank god #AmazingRace had a good and satisfying ending I don’t think i could’ve emotionally handled jonathan winning,” one viewer wrote on X after the software developer, 42, and his wife, 35, made it to the mat during the finale on Thursday, May 15.

“Haven’t been this happy to see a man lose the final leg since season 27 lol,” another user added.

“And I better never see Jonathan on TV ever again. Do better with casting next time,” a third person wrote.

After they arrived at the finish line, Ana told host Phi Keoghan, “All in all, we didn’t go home with the prize, but we worked well together.”

“I’m definitely one of those people who believe things happen for a reason. It wasn’t meant to be,” Jonathan added.

Jonathan sparked outrage among fans throughout the season with the comments he made toward Ana, as he often blamed her for losing their lead or criticized her skills. Some of his most controversial moments included telling his wife to “stop whining” and calling her a “terrible partner” when she told him he was being mean to her.

With each week’s episode, viewers took to social media to express their disdain for Jonathan and concern for Ana.

“Try not to read too much into reality TV people because of how they can be edited. That said, Jonathan on this season’s Amazing Race has been one of the most despicable spouses ever shown. I’ve never seen anyone treat a partner/wife like that on this show,” one person wrote on X on May 8.

“Jonathan is such an ass and his negativity it not entertaining at all … I really like Ana … I don’t know how she deal with him … if anyone can get eliminated, i hope it’s them … Only because of Jonathan,” another user added.

Jonathan and Ana addressed the backlash in an April 8 video on their YouTube channel, “The Road Less Traveled.” The California-based couple revealed that, after Jonathan saw his behavior play out on The Amazing Race 37, he sought help and was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

“Looking back at what I was seeing, and knowing what I know about myself now, it’s so hard for me to be supportive and helpful to somebody when my brain is in this overheated state,” the dad of two said, adding that his “hyperactive brain” was triggered during the competition.

“When I’m on The Race, unlike when I’m at home, I cannot control the external factors. I have no control – my routines are completely non-existent. And we rely on – people like me rely on routines in order to help us regulate our emotions and to control the amount of stimulus that we can get at any given time,” he continued.

Jonathan admitted that he spoke to Ana in a “harsh tone” when he told her to “stop whining.” However, he added that, at the time, his brain “felt like there was a nuclear reactor that was melting down.”

“Even though I know now she’s going to express her frustration in her way, and I need to respect that, at that time, I was just overwhelmed with everything that was happening at that time that I felt like I didn’t have time to deal with the crying,” he said.

Jonathan later admitted that he had mistreated his wife in a comment to a fan on YouTube on May 8.

“I treated Ana very poorly while we were on the show and I understand how that can trigger a lot of strong emotions in people, but yes, we have come a long way since then,” he wrote. “Thank you for your support.”
