Tame Impala Haunts Halloween Show with Rare 'Sundown Syndrome' Performance

Tame Impala, led by Kevin Parker, captivated fans on Halloween night in Brooklyn as part of his Deadbeat Tour at Barclays Center. The show, which was the third night of a four-night sold-out run, featured several fan-favorite treats and surprises. Among the highlights was the live performance of "Sundown Syndrome," a psych-pop gem and Tame Impala's debut single from 2009, marking its first appearance on a tour setlist in seven years.

The band, including Parker, embraced the Halloween spirit by dressing in costumes that paid homage to Parker’s distinctive “scarf-era” aesthetic from the early 2010s. The evening's unexpected moments continued with a cameo from comedian and devoted Tame Impala fan, Eric Andre. Andre appeared on the show's unique “bathroom cam” – a backstage toilet feed that Parker famously incorporates into his tours to offer a surreal, behind-the-scenes glimpse. Andre's appearance culminated in a quick on-camera kiss with Parker, which was met with laughter and cheers from the enthusiastic crowd.

The Deadbeat Tour, which commenced earlier in the week in Brooklyn, has been notable for a string of surprises, including the debut of several new tracks and a cover of Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” The tour supports Parker’s latest album, Deadbeat, which has achieved significant commercial success since its launch. The album bowed at No. 1 on six different rankings dated November 1, including Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, Top Dance Albums (marking the act's first entry on this list), Vinyl Albums, and Indie Store Album Sales.

Furthermore, Deadbeat secured a spot in the top 10 on the all-genre Billboard 200, reaching No. 4, making it Tame Impala’s third top five-charting project. It also landed at No. 2 on both Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales, and No. 7 on Top Streaming Albums. Deadbeat represents Kevin Parker’s inaugural release for Columbia Records, following his signing with the label in July. According to a September press statement announcing the album, the project drew inspiration from the vibrant Western Australia rave scene. The Deadbeat Tour is set to conclude its Brooklyn dates before moving on to Toronto and other cities.
