Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has opened up about the reasons she decided to give birth to her twins in the United States.

The politician has faced sharp criticism after her absence from county duties became public, before it was confirmed she was on maternity leave.
Her senator, Tabitha Karanja, condemned her for seeking treatment abroad, with others questioned what may have led her to fly abroad to give birth.
During a public event, the mother of three revealed that she chose to give birth abroad to avoid unwanted exposure.
"You do know that I am the governor, right? So all the county doctors and nurses work under me, right? Now, surely, did you want me to be lying on my back as one of those doctors helps me deliver? And then when we go for meetings, he looks at me and sees me completely. What did you want? That is the reason I decided to hide the shame a little," she said.
The governor also made promises to ensure that women in her county will have great services that someone in her status would access.
"I will build a good maternity for you so that I ensure that you also get the same facilities that I can get. You need to back me. And remember, about 10 years you saw that my dowry was paid. They didn't pay it for me to go and sit at home," she added.
