Summer Game Fest is on June 6, but the gaming showcases have already begun!

Published 2 days ago4 minute read

While most people can’t believe it’s June already — it’s June already! — we’re hitting the greatest time of year for gamers. As the de facto successor to E3, Summer Game Fest is more than just one night of showcase. Instead it’s days of showcases, both officially and unofficially part of the festival.

The official Summer Game Fest presentation is on Friday, June 6 but events actually began on the third with Unreal presenting the Witcher 4, advancements in the Unreal engine, and developments at Epic Games. There was also the Mix Summer Games Showcase which highlighted upcoming indie games, like the “gardenvania” platformer Nectermancer and the open world crafting game Autonomica. The games listed in the video are also conveniently located on the Steam page for Summer Game Fest to make adding to your Wishlist a charm.

Here’s what you need to know about the many, many events coming this week for Summer Game Fest. All times listed in eastern/pacific.

Sony waited until the last minute on June 3 to announce State of Play, a 40 minute presentation on PlayStation games. There have been no hints at what’s on the agenda for this event.

Highlighting advancement in video games and streaming to help disabled gamers.

The main event hosted by Geoff Keighley will cover upcoming games across all platforms over the course of two hours. (No word on whether Geoff’s best friend Kojima will show up.) We expect to see more of Death Stranding and Borderlands 4, but there are sure to be a lot of unannounced titles. This will be the show not to miss

(or immediately following the conclusion of Summer Game Fest if it runs late)

Day of the Devs is a non profit independent game showcase presented by Double Fine entertainment.

Devolver Digital’s showcases usually have to be seen to be believed. What more needs to be said? It’s Devolver Digital. Expect the unexpected and the bizarre.

The showcases on June 7 tend to overlap one another, so it becomes a case of picking what you want to see live and going back to YouTube for the others later.

A collection of feel-good cozy games, such as Tiny Bookshop. Also any game that feels like it should be played with a cat in your lap.

A showcase highlighting women developers.

Highlighting videogames from Latin America, promising over 5o titles.

Announcements from developers in southeast Asia.

Games that have real-life impact on the environment and society.

Highlighting cool games being developed in Australia and New Zealand.

Microsoft will be showcasing upcoming releases featuring Activision, Blizzard, and Bethesda games along with several other first and third party titles. The event will end with a showcase of Outer Worlds 2.

PC Gamer Magazine highlights upcoming titles and hardware upgrades for (unsurprisingly) PC gamers.

Hideo Kojima and the cast of Death Stranding 2 join Geoff Keighley for a live demonstration of the upcoming game.

Black Voices in Gaming 12 pm /9 am

Spotlighting games and music by Black creators worldwide.

While June 9 is listed as the last showcase now, more tend to pop up later. Microsoft has a history of a second showcase after its Sunday showcase — typically on the Tuesday or Wednesday after their events — to go into further detail on their upcoming games. Other developers may not be included in the Summer Game Fest lineup, but still be part of Steam Next Fest which starts next week and runs from June 9 – 16. Next Fest focuses on games with never-seen-before demos, so there will be plenty of things to play (likely including demos of some of the games from Summer Game Fest).

Be on the lookout for a deluge of new game news` over the course of this month, because June really is games month.
