Summer Camp Kick-Off 2024!!!

Published 11 hours ago4 minute read

After over thirty years here at Camp High Rocks, I still get excited about opening day of the summer.  So much has gone in to what we started today.  I love what we do and I love our families.  Six months ago, it was certainly a little different.  I guess I should say I am happy that we are still here…  It was some trials and tribulations, but Camp High Rocks is still strong.

And just like that, Camp High Rocks is off and running just like it never stopped. June Opening Day is like no other.  I like to say it’s like waiting for the winter ice to break.  We have worked for months and months to prepare for this day.  Like a big Broadway show, we work on our roles, build the set, practice, promote, and finally it’s curtain time!!!  The unique moment of June Camp opening is that, like you, we have been waiting so long for camp, we are what I call “nervous-excited” the night before because it’s opening day for us too!  I LOVE IT! I get excited when you all come up the road!

After two full weeks of staff training (aka counselor camp) the staff are also ready to see what all this “camp” thing really is…  I have a tradition of sorts during orientation. I usually wait until the last day or so, and then I let it rip… “THE KIDS ARE COMING!” It’s a reminder that the focus will soon move from the staff to the campers. What we have trained for will all come to use just around the corner.  Well, the kids are here and we are excited!

We spend so much time on all the activities, and events.  Really, it’s just about being here.  Enjoying moments that you cannot find anywhere else in the world right now.  Camp friends are the best!!!

Images and The High Rocks Gallery

Below tonight’s blog is the link to the High Rocks Gallery. You will notice that our website and picture gallery is very user-friendly on almost any device, including mobile and tablet devices. To get all the details and features like image download, face tagging, and navigation; please check out the notes and details here at  Gallery Help and Highlights.  This gallery is password protected. If you are new to the gallery, you should have received an automated email today with details for your login (check your spam folder).  If you are a returning family, use the email address that you received in the opening day email.  Your password is the same as last year. If you cannot remember, just use the “forgot password” link to retrieve a new one.

If you are interested in the high-resolution download and face tagging subscription, you can still order that for the session.  Just hit up Darby at [email protected].  She can just put it on your store account. It is $50.00.  If you have pre-ordered a download/face-tag subscription, Darby was able to get everyone who ordered set up.

It may make sense to save the link and log in to your browser for quick access. I will try my best to get the blog up by 9:30 pm each night, but sometimes camp does get in the way, or our rural internet has been quite slow (or even slower). Don’t fret!  We will get you the pictures as soon as we can! We are likely to push up some pictures throughout the day (usually after rest hour), but they will continue to go up until the blog is live.  Once the blog is up, it typically means that pictures are up for the day.

Social Media

Don’t forget to follow us on social media.  We will make it worth your while by putting up a couple of extra pictures and a special video from time to time during the day. Facebook:  Camp High Rocks, and on Instagram. Feel free to throw up some of these great pictures to share on your feed.  We like making High Rocks look good!

It is an honor and a privilege to host your son here at High Rocks.  We will do our best to give him the best possible experience summer camp has to offer. If you ever need anything, please reach out.  We are so excited he is here with us! I hope you enjoy the journey with us.

Tech Note: The gallery is acting up a bit tonight.  I have our tech guys on it, but you may have some login issues or strange user events.  The webserver is not sending emails, so you may not be able to get your new password.  Hit me up from the email Darby sent. I will try to get you in tonight. Sorry for the trouble…  The bell still rings at 7:45 AM!
